Canton had one of those moments yesterday that reminds you what the city’s really made of. ❤️

On Christmas Day, a group of about 40 volunteers stepped up to serve a free ham dinner (carryout) at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist & St. Peter Church downtown. Not for attention. Not for a headline. Just to make sure people had a warm meal on a day that can be really hard for a lot of folks.

And that’s the part I think matters: events like this aren’t just “nice.” They’re practical help. They catch people who are in-between paychecks, dealing with unexpected bills, going through a rough season, or just trying to keep things steady for their kids.

One guest said it “really does help the community,” and you can feel that. Sometimes the most meaningful thing isn’t a big grand gesture, it’s a plate of food handed over with kindness and zero judgment.

  • Big Akron win that actually matters: the city says it has removed the final lead service line, meaning no homes in Akron are being served by a lead line anymore.

  • This wasn’t a quick project either — Akron’s been working at it since the 1960s, when the city had 55,000+ lead service lines and started replacing about 1,000 lines per year.

  • Next up: replacing galvanized pipes that were previously connected to lead, with a goal to finish by the end of 2027.

  • Quiet infrastructure stuff… but it’s a real public health upgrade, especially for kids.
